3M finishes Hyatt Place Malta project

Post Time:Mar 01,2011Classify:Industry NewsView:185

Officials at the Hyatt Place management company wantedto apply film to the glass “edge,” and approached 3M,Minnesota. They wished to illuminate the glass to appear blue at night. This effect could not be accomplished with clear glass. One of the unique aspects of the project was that the only access to the windows was through the roof hatch that was only 8 feet wide and more than 30 feet high. All needed equipment had to be carried or hoisted through this passageway.

3M officials chose 3M FASARA SH2MAMLL for its blue light transmission property. Installation took place October 2010, and was challenging due to the restricted access space. Installers used adjustable ladders and scaffolding to access all windows. Weather also impacted this project, from extreme heat to being too cold to apply the film.

The finished installation created a look of frosted, opaque glass. This appearance, along with the blue up-lighting system, allows the “edge” to appear blue at night.
