AkzoNobel Extrusion Coatings eliminates lead compounds from paints

AkzoNobel Extrusion Coatings, Columbus, Ohio,has eliminated the use of lead compounds from all paint brand formulations including Trinar, Alum-A-Star, and Acra-Bond Ultra, according to a Feb. 1 release. This also includes products such as the reformulated high-solids Polydure E, and the newly introduced Ceram-A-Star EXtreme for fiberglass applications.

“The effort to remove lead compounds from our products is in keeping with our corporate goal of eco-premium products accounting for 30 percentof our sales by 2015,” said Ben Mitchell, Sales Manager, Extrusion Coatings, in the release.

Officials at AkzoNobel Extrusion Coatings are seeing a trend in environmental responsibility, most notably in government buildings, colleges and universities, and hospitals, according to the release. These segments of the architectural aluminum extrusion industry are focused on Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design credits and energy-efficient coatings that also are environmentally responsible.

The green, lead-free message is also important to retailers and their customers, a very active sales channel for AkzoNobel. Extrusion coatings have recently been involved with several global rebranding efforts for retailers, oil companies, and restaurant chains. All of these recent applications have been lead-free, contributing to the success and eco-efficiency of AkzoNobel customers worldwide.
