Custom Components Co., Tampa, Fla.,supplied custom designed railing parts for Beekman Tower, a 76-story mixed-use building in Lower Manhattan that is nearing completion.The tower,located at 8 Spruce St., is being developed by Forest City Ratner Cos. Frank Gehrydesigned the building, andone of its design hallmarks is its facades etched with a series of soft irregular folds fashioned from shiny, crinkled stainless steel. Kreisler Borg Florman General Construction Co. will completeconstruction; Permasteelisa Group, Windsor, Conn.,provided the curtain wall for the building. Upon completion it will be the tallest residential building in the city,a ccording to a release.
For the project, Custom Components Co. supplied a unique design base shoe, stainless cladding and structural mounting system for the special 9/16-inch laminate glass panels. The glass features DuPont’s SGP interlayer. Custom Components did all off-site fabrication. S & C Products Corp., a metals and window wall supplier from New York City, purchased, engineered and installed this custom railing system.
