62 jobs lost as rescue bid to save Scunthorpe glass business fails

A rescue bid to save one of Scunthorpe's [U.K.] longest-running businesses has failed, putting 62 workers on the dole.

The shutters will go up at the premises of Darby Glass on Sunningdale Road this Friday [Nov. 12].

The administrators at SFP had been working since Oct. 13 to find a buyer for the business, which started in 1973.

The company, which produces tempered safety glass, had continued to trade until this week after temporarily axing 11 of the employees, according to a Nov. 10 This is Scunthorpe report.
