Empire State Building’s greener window retrofits complete

6,514 windows of the Empire State Building were refurbished using a ground-breaking process in which 96 percentof the existing frames and glass were reused. The refurbishment alone will cut annual energy costs by more than $400,000. The landmark made an announcement on Wednesday [Oct. 13] about completing a building-wide window refurbishment. This initiative is part of the innovative energy retrofit project announced in April 2009 with New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and President Bill Clinton, along with seven other measures implemented at the building, according to an Oct. 15 smartmeters.com report.
