Schott Pyran Platinum, a fire-rated glass ceramic, is made through production processes that don’t require the use of heavy metals, such as arsenic, antimony and barium, according to the release. “This was a long and intensive process,” said Karen Wegert, an applications engineer out of the company’s Louisville facility. “We had to measure our energy usage, our water usage, identify our energy conservation efforts. … It helped us learn a lot about our own processes.”The Cradle to Cradle certification can earn points to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
