George Arthur, co-founder and father of the current owner of Denton, Texas-basedSouthern Stretch Forming, David Arthur, passed away May 4, after a lengthy illness, according to a May 6 release. He was 83.
Arthur owned the American Window and Door Co. in Lubbock, Texas,before selling it to PPG. He then worked for PPG until leaving to start Skyfab, Denton, a curtain wall fabricator. Among the most notable projects for Skyfab were the Stratosphere in Las Vegas, the 52-story Figueroa and Wilshire (Big Fig) in downtown Los Angeles and the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas in New Orleans. In 1991, he started Southern Stretch Forming with his son, David Arthur.
He was a mentor to many in the architectural and fenestration industry.
