AGC Glass Europe, Brussels, has acquired 70 percentof the shares in FGT Polska, Netherlands, a key player in architectural glass in Poland, according to an April 16 release.

Fassaden Glas Technik-Polska is a producer of high-end architectural glass components for the building projects market. The company operates one of the largest glass bending furnaces in Europe besides producing double glazing as well as tempered and laminated safety glass for building applications. It is located in Ozorkow, in the center of Poland, and employs 90 people.

By joining forces, AGC and FGT will strengthen their position on the growing construction market in Central Europe, particularly in Poland. Poland was the only European country to post a positive GDP growth in 2009, according to the release. The company is likely to benefit from the strong development of commercial buildings and hotels in view of the upcoming UEFA Euro 2012.

“This alliance opens new prospects for AGC in Poland by combining a state-of-the-art processing plant with our wide range of architectural glass” said Jean-Luc Batkin, vice president, Solar & Processed Glass, AGC Glass Europe, in the release.

“With AGC as an industrial and commercial partner to support our growth on this highly demanding architectural glass market, FGT will expand its development and customer service,” said Friedrich Langenbach, general manager, FGT, in the release.
