Auto glassmaker idles 64 in Auburn

Auburn automotive glassmaker Guardian has laid off 64 workers, a company spokesperson confirmed.

Guardian spokesperson Amy Hennes said the layoffs, announced last week, were a result of production cuts throughout the automotive industry, which has a direct impact on the demand of automotive glass.

The cuts were effective Friday [Oct. 23], Hennes said. The plant employs 238 workers, according to an Oct. 26 report in The News-Sentinel.
