A Cottonwood Heights [Utah] teen suffered life-threatening injuries after falling through a skylight of a vacant elementary school.

Two 16-year-olds were cutting class from Brighton High School on Tuesday [Oct. 13] afternoon when they climbed to the roof of the vacant Cottonwood Heights Elementary School across the street, said Cottonwood Heights police spokesman Beau Babka.

One of the boys stepped on a skylight in the roof and broke through, Babka said. He landed headfirst in a kitchen prep area about 15 feet below, Babka said. The teen suffered critical injuries to his head and upper body.

His friend climbed through the broken skylight and dragged him out of the kitchen, causing a security alarm to sound, Babka said, according to an Oct. 14 report in The Salt Lake Tribune.
