Pilkington cuts 90 jobs at European research center

Glassmaker Pilkington is to cut another 90 jobs in the region as it continues to make massive cost savings.

The firm yesterday confirmed it is looking to make more than one in six of its employees redundant at its European Technical Centre in Lathom [England], near Ormskirk, as part of a global restructuring process.

The company has been hit hard by the global downturn as a knock-on effect of the major problems in the car and housing industries, according to a July 15 Liverpool Daily Post report.
