The Insulated Glass Certification Council,Sackets Harbor, N.Y.,and Safety Glazing Certification Council,Sackets Harbor, approved another Shanghai Yaohua Pilkington Glass Co.,facility, in Tianjin, China, according to a May 19 release. IGCC and SGCC approvals provide third-party evidence that the new facility meets critical glazing industry standards, from initial fabrication to storage and handling. SYP Glass sought the added approvals to provide high quality insulating and safety glazing to architectural, building envelope, curtain wall, and other customers throughout North America.
“Our goal is to meet or exceed the certifications requirements at all SYP Glass facilities,” said Frank Zagar, North American factory agent, SYP Glass, in the release. “We believe facility certification is critical when offering our customers more reliable products and services. It goes hand-in-hand with customer satisfaction and provides them with top-notch glazing.”
The IGCC credits facilities that maintain a high standard of excellence in the manufacture of insulating glass units. Facilities that receive IGCC certification must pass a series of rigorous product and fabrication performance tests, and are subject to unannounced, periodic inspections and testing by independent laboratories.
To receive SGCC certification, facilities must voluntarily submit safety-glazing products for independent laboratory testing. For accreditation, safety-glazing materials must be in compliance with the American National Standards Institute’s criteria for safety glazing materials used in buildings (ANSI Z97.1) or the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s Safety Standard for Architectural Glazing Materials (CPSC 16 CFR 1201), according to the release.
