Glasstec to support Global Technology Pavilion at GBA

The National Glass Association, McLean Va., and Messe Dusseldorf North America, Chicago, formed an initiative to bring “global technology” to GlassBuild America, association officials said at a meeting, Oct. 22, at glasstec.

“The global technology is what’s missing at GBA,” said Denise Sheehan, vice president, Industry Events, NGA, at the meeting. "The U.S. is behind Europe when itcomes to glazing application technology, and we're hoping to give European companies a platform to showtheir know-how in the U.S. at GBA."

The new Global Technology Pavilion will start at GBA in 2009, Sheehan said, and will take place every other year that glasstec’s off. “We have set aside 3,600 square meters for 36 booths, exactly the same size as the North American pavilion at glasstec,” she said. “We can expand. We’ll be open to demonstrations or whatever the exhibiting companies want.”MDNA will sell the pavilion to the European companies, Sheehan said.

Energy efficiency is an increasingly important subject in the industry, and this year’s glasstec focuses on a solar theme. “We’ve devoted distinct amount of attention to photovoltaics this year,” said Joachim Schafer, managing director, Messe Dusseldorf, Germany. “In 2006, 60 companies registered themselves as solar companies; this year there are 120.”

Attendee numbers also are up 1.2 percent than 2006 on the second day of glasstec, Schafer said.
