Glass companies make the ranks of fastest growing companies

More than 20 glass industry companies earned places on the Inc. 5,000 list of fastest growing private companies in the United States. The companies number among the 1,076 construction and manufacturing business to make the list, a higher than expected percentage of the list, said Inc. 5,000 Project Manager Jim Melloan in his introduction to the list. “The construction and manufacturing industries, historically not particularly well represented on the Inc. 500, are the two largest categories on the Inc. 5,000, with each one constituting more than 10 percent of the list,” Melloan said. “The median three-year growth for construction firms on the Inc. 5,000 is 108 percent, for manufacturing firms it’s 98 percent.” Geographically, the Midwest was the fastest growing region, with 1,046 companies of the 5,000 on the list. The West followed with 884, the Southeast with 872, the Northeast with 782 and the Mid-Atlantic with 606, according to the release. The industry-related companies to achieve the highest rankings on the list belong to the quickly growing photovoltaic segment. AEE Solar of Redway, Calif., was ranked 312 with 846 percent three-year growth, and GT Solar of Merrimack, N.H., 342 with 801 percent growth. Next came Storm Smart Building Systems of Fort Myers, Fla., at 1,114 with 321.9 percent three-year groth. Storm Smart is a dealer of hurricane resistant products, including windows and glass doors. The Dwyer Group of Waco, Texas, parent of Glass Doctor, came in at 1,413 with 254.9 percent growth, and laminated glass clean-room manufacturer Joe’s Refrigeration made it to No. 1,803 with 200.5 percent growth. Two contract glaziers followed. Sowards Glass of Topeka, Kan., made 1,951 on the list with 185.5 percent three-year growth, and Cutting Edge Glass of Denver reached 2,014 with 178.2 percent growth. Nana Wall Systems of Mill Valley, Calif., was ranked 2,556 with 136.4 percent growth; Chapmans Mirror & Glass of High Point, N.C., was 2,787 with 121 percent growth; and Wojan Window & Door of Charlevoix, Mich., 2,848 with 117 percent growth. Custom window fabricator and installer United Glass & Panel Systems of North Canton, Ohio, came next at 2,935 with 111.9 percent growth, followed by All Action Architectural Metal & Glass of Edison, N.J., at 3,250 with 96.1 percent growth, and Irving, Texas-based Mammen Glass & Mirror at 3,341 with 91.7 percent growth. Coastal Glass Distributors followed at 3,558 with 82 percent growth, and Sound Glass Sales at 3,998 with 62.7 percent growth. Cambridge, Ohio-based spacer producer Edgetech I.G. was ranked 4,016 with 61.9 percent growth, and Nanuet, N.Y.’s W&W Glass was 4,058 with 60.4 percent growth. Glass machinery company Salem Distributing of Winston-Salem, N.C., was 4,095 with 58.9 percent growth; Midwest Glass of Brookings, S.D., 4,146 with 57.7 percent growth; and American All Door & Window of Woodstock, Ga., 4,152 with 56.7 percent growth. Closing out the list were Quint G, a glass and aluminum supplier out of South Elgin, Ill., at 4,481 with 44 percent growth; Maryland Glass & Mirror of Baltimore with 39.5 percent growth; and Rex Glass & Mirror Co. of Pittsburgh, with 30.5 percent growth.
