MESQUITE, TX - Paragon Industries has just introduced a microwave kiln for glass fusing. The kiln operates inside a standard microwave oven and reaches glass fusing temperatures in 5 - 8 minutes.
The ceramic fiber kiln, called the Paragon MagicFuse, has a 4½" diameter round firing chamber. The length of firing depends on the wattage and brand of the microwave oven.
After the kiln is removed from the microwave, the glass takes about an hour to cool to room temperature.
Because the kiln fires so rapidly, glass pieces should be limited in size to 2 layers of 1½" x 1½" or smaller.
Larger sizes or additional layers of glass must be pre-heated for 5 minutes at a 50% microwave power setting.
"Firing times may vary even within the same microwave oven," said Arnold Howard, spokesman for Paragon."For this reason, visually check the glass a minute or two before it is done. Then continue the firing. The MagicFuse is easy to fire when you visually check the glass and keep firing records."
The MagicFuse has no elements; the microwave oven supplies the heat. The kiln comes with 6 - ½" ceramic posts, glass separator, and a 15-page instruction manual.
