Stained glass gives tables a perfect touch

Laura Scaccia of Eclecticasa has always had a passion for old buildings, antiques and history. While helping a friend restore his historic home in St. Clair, she found a treasure trove of beautiful stained and leaded glass windows, centuries old, all removed from mansions in the southern Ohio and Pittsburgh areas.

Falling in love with their color, beauty and detailing, she knew each piece had a story to tell and perhaps could be re-purposed into something useful.

With the help of a talented carpenter, Laura began the journey that has saved these architectural pieces and transformed them into a variety of tables that also double as works of art.

After carefully restoring the window, each glass top is then matched to an appropriate base using reclaimed table legs or a tabletop surround made from either wood or metal.

The styles range from the contemporary and the traditional, and each table comes with its personal historical description. But then, they also are fitted with LED lighting so that, when operating, the table is illuminated from within, filling the space with color, just as when the window was shining from sunlight.

Her collection now also contains reclaimed windows from Chicago, Detroit and Europe. These beautiful, one-of-a-kind pieces are on display at the Michigan Design Center in Troy, or you can visit her website at www.eclecticasa.com.

Looking for a one-of-a-kind piece that also preserves a part of our architectural history? These tables fit the bill.
