Royal Canadian Mint silver collector coin features Casa Loma's stained glass

TORONTO , Aug. 5, 2014 /CNW/ - A new collector coin unveiled today features a striking replica of the stained glass McCausland dome that graces the Conservatory of Toronto's historical Casa Loma. Covered in translucent and opaque enamel, the coin shines and reflects light which accurately represents the stained glass panels from the renowned window.

"Casa Loma was built to celebrate the highest forms of architectural craftsmanship and decorative art and few examples shine as brightly as the McCausland dome," said the Honourable Joe Oliver, Minister of Finance and Minister responsible for the Royal Canadian Mint. The reverse image of this coin features an eye-catching colour reproduction of the central disc of the McCausland stained glass dome. At the heart of the disc lies a raised polished silver circle framed with engraved rays. The image is divided into four quadrants by raised silver lines spanning from the central circle to the coin's raised outer rim. Each of the four lines bears a stylized cluster of nine purple grapes, which are separated from each other by dark green leaves. A golden vine encircles the central portion of the image, winding its way around the coin from central curlicues that surround the central circle.

The 2014 Casa Loma stained glass silver coin bears a $20 face value and has a limited mintage of only 7,500.
