Pittsburgh Glass Works closing Ont. plants in Oshawa and Cambridge

Post Time:Dec 02,2008Classify:Company NewsView:463

Pittsburgh Glass Works says it will close its Oshawa, Ont., plant in the first quarter of 2009.

The plant employs approximately 160 workers. The company also says satellite assembly plants in Cambridge, Ont., and Newark, Del., will be closed later in 2009.

CAW Local 222 president Chris Buckley calls the Oshawa closure another devastating blow to workers who rely on the auto industry.

Buckley called on government to recognize the crisis in the auto industry before more families end up on the unemployment line.

The auto glass plant was among the first workplaces that formed Local 222 in 1937.
