Owens-Illinois (O-I), the world’s leading glass container manufacturer, has celebrated the official opening of its Innovation Center, a combined R&D and pilot plant facility, at its global headquarters in Perrysburg, Ohio.
Through the Innovation Center, O-I seeks to advance new concepts in glass production and develop new technologies that could revolutionize the process of melting and forming glass.
The 24,000 ft2 facility, which is approximately one-tenth the size of a typical manufacturing plant, houses a 20 metric ton oxy-fuel furnace, two production lines and inspection equipment.
In this strategic project, O-I collaborated with Nikolaus Sorg GmbH and EME Maschinenfabrik Clasen GmbH. Sorg has supplied the furnace and forehearth while EME delivered the batch plant and cullet return system.
