Sales of glass in Germany grew by 3%

According to the initiative of the German industry group Aktionsforum Glasverpackung, sales of container glass in tons in the first three quarters of this year increased by 3%. The initiative Aktionsforum Glasverpackung industry group was established in 2000. The group consists of a total of 13 companies that manufacture glass containers and packaging Germany. It's 35 factories, employing about 9,000 people.

Most of glass was sold in July: an increase of 8.7% as compared with July 2013

Glass containers for beverages segment showed good growth in the first nine months of 2014 - 4.4%. Moreover, the growth of sales in the domestic market (+ 4.4%) slightly exceeded the volume of sales abroad (+ 4.2%). The most significant growth showed segments of beer bottles (+ 14.1% in the domestic market + 20.3%), bottles of sparkling wines (+ 9.9%) and water bottles and soda (+ 6.5%).

The reasons for this are varied: very warm weather in the spring, as well as a general increase in the consumption of water and lemonade. In increasing the sales of beer played a role the World Cup. In the juice segment sales volume increased by 1.5%. In segments of the spirits (- 2.4%), wine (- 3.7%) and milk (- 10.4%) showed a reduction of sales.

In the segment of glass containers for food products for the period from January to September 2014 recorded an increase of 0.6% compared to the same period of the previous year.

Sales of glass containers for pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries, as well as the beverage industry capacity of 150 ml or less shows a slight increase, which was for the last three quarters of 2014 to 0.3%.
