Including the collection points in private housing estates, the department has achieved its target of setting up 1,000 glass bottle collection points on residential estates by the end of 2014.

This means more than 50% of Hong Kong's population now has access to glass bottle recycling facilities within their residential estates.

The department said it will continue to expand the recycling network in 2015, paving the way for the implementation of a citywide glass bottle recycling programme.

It urged the public to put "recycle clean" into practice, noting that in addition to glass beverage bottles, food and sauce glass bottles, if properly washed, are also suitable for recycling.

Bottles collected will be delivered to proper recyclers for making eco-pavers or use in other public works projects.
