Glass Magazine has been notifed that several North American glass suppliers have announced a decrease in surcharges, including energy surcharges, diesel surcharges and freight surcharges.
The news follows weeks of falling gasoline and diesel fuel costs. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, U.S. on-highway diesel fuel prices have fallen for the ninth consecutive week to $3.137.
Energy prices have also remained low throughout the year, according to the EIA. Natural gas, the primary energy source for the industrial sector, has been on a downward trend since late February 2014. However, the forecast for colder temperatures in coming weeks will likely drive prices up temporarily, according to the EIA.
The decreases in fuel and energy surcharges come on the heels of glass price increases from several manufacturers. According to various industry sources, glass prices could continue to rise in 2015, as demand increases and supply tightens.
