SCHOTT to match donations up to $5,000 to help children in need - SCHOTT Advanced Optics, a branch of the international technology group SCHOTT, will raise money for the charity Project Night Night at the SPIE Photonics West exhibition in San Francisco, held from Feb. 10 to 12.  In addition to showcasing specialty glasses including IR materials, laser glasses, and ZERODUR® glass-ceramic, SCHOTT will collect donations at its booth (#1314). Attendees will receive a special International Year of Light souvenir SCHOTT shot glass for their contribution, with a suggested charitable donation of $1 per glass. The company will match all donations up to $5,000, and Christoph Fark, Executive Vice President of Advanced Optics, will present the final sum to Kendra Stitt Robins, the Founder and Executive Director of Project Night Night, on the last day of the show.

Project Night Night is a San Francisco-based organization that assembles nighttime comfort packages and delivers them to homeless children across the U.S. The packages are filled with small luxuries, such as new blankets, children’s books, and stuffed animals, in an effort to help children in need receive a restful and comfortable night’s sleep. With the help of thousands of volunteers and donations, more than 25,000 homeless children receive Night Night packages each year.

2015 is a special year for Photonics West, which kicks off the International Year of Light,” said Thea Marcoux, Marketing Director at SCHOTT Advanced Optics. “In an effort to commemorate this landmark event, SCHOTT hopes to bring a small source of light to those who need it most. We take corporate responsibility seriously, and hold community engagement as a key pillar in that commitment. SCHOTT understands the importance of light, and through our partnership with Project Night Night, we hope to add a bit of brightness to a child’s life.”

In addition to its efforts to support Project Night Night, SCHOTT will showcase its IR glass portfolio, the extremely low thermal expansion glass-ceramic ZERODUR®, laser glasses, specialty filter glasses, and other optical glasses and materials at its booth throughout the conference.
