CORNING, N.Y. (AP) - The Corning Museum of Glass is taking the wraps off its new $64 million wing.

The 100,000-square-foot Contemporary Art and Design Wing opens Friday after more than two years under construction in the city of Corning, near the Pennsylvania border 75 miles southeast of Rochester.

The museum, which attracts about 400,000 visitors a year, has added a 500-seat hot glass demonstration theater in the property's historic Steuben Glass building. The new wing also highlights the museum's relationship with Corning Inc., the maker of Gorilla Glass used in cellphones, tables and other electronic devices.

Opened in 1951, the museum has undergone two previous expansion projects and its collection has grown over the decades to include nearly 50,000 objects spanning 3,500 years of glass history.

The new win was designed by Thomas Phifer and Partners, a Manhattan-based architectural firm.
