The glass struck Charnelle Hughes, who was standing back and sending a text message at the time. She was left with a scar to her right eye. She also suffered a swollen cheek and felt numbness in her lip and jaw.

Goode, 20, from Tipton in the West Midlands, pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding. He was given 14 months’ youth custody, suspended for 12 months, with 120 hours unpaid work and a three-month curfew. He must pay £500 compensation.

The court heard the offence rook place in December. The victim had gone there to watch two local bands, but had not wanted to take part in hardcore dancing, having been to similar events before and knowing what to expect.

Goode was traced through his link to one of the bands performing, on their Facebook page. He told police he had got carried out and threw the glass, not meaning to hit anyone.

His solicitor said he had no previous convictions and had shown a great deal of remorse.

Judge Pamela Badley told Goode he had behaved in a reckless and anti-social manner. She said: “The idea that for fun you can pick up a glass and throw it randomly into a group of people on the crowded dance floor is one which almost beggars belief.”
