OWATONNA, Minn. — The large commercial glass maker in Owatonna, Viracon, says it will reduce its work force in January with at least 100 layoffs.
The company current employs 1,700 people, making it the largest manufacturer in Owatonna. Viracon makes architectural glass and has been hit by the slowdown in commercial building.
Jim Wendorff, Viracon's vice president of human resources, says the company hasn't yet decided on the exact number of layoffs, but knows it will effect jobs throughout the company.
It hasn't been decided if the impending layoffs will be temporary or permanent.
The announcement came shortly after the Owatonna plant reopened after a week-long production shutdown.
