MUNCIE, IN--(Marketwired - May 28, 2015) - Ardagh Group, Glass - North America, a division of Ardagh Group and a leading producer of glass containers for the food and beverage industries in the United States, was awarded six ENERGY STAR® plant certifications for superior energy performance from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
The six Ardagh Group plants, located in Bridgeton, N.J.; Dunkirk, Ind.; Madera, Calif.; Milford, Mass.; Sapulpa, Okla.; and Winchester, Ind., have demonstrated best-in-class energy performance and, on average, perform within the top 25 percent nationwide for energy efficiency when compared to similar plants across the country.
Meeting strict energy efficiency performance levels set by the EPA, Ardagh Group's six recognized facilities have improved energy performance by upgrading and optimizing furnaces, utilizing recycled glass, installing energy-efficient lighting fixtures and repairing air compressor leaks, among several other energy-saving initiatives.
"As the only U.S. glass manufacturer to earn the EPA's recognition, Ardagh Group is committed to producing eco-friendly glass containers for our customers while performing above industry standards," said John Riordan, President and CEO of Ardagh Group's North American Glass division. "We are dedicated to embracing energy efficient technologies in our manufacturing facilities that help our customers achieve their sustainability objectives."
ENERGY STAR was introduced by the EPA in 1992 as a voluntary, market-based partnership to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through energy efficiency. Today, the ENERGY STAR label can be found on more than 60 different products, as well as new homes and commercial and industrial buildings that meet strict energy efficiency specifications set by the EPA. Over the past twenty years, American families and businesses have saved a total of nearly $230 billion on utility bills and prevented more than 1.7 billion metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions with the help of ENERGY STAR.
"Improving the energy efficiency of our nation's industrial facilities is critical to protecting our environment," said Jean Lupinacci, Chief of the ENERGY STAR Commercial & Industrial Branch. "From the plant floor to the board room, organizations are leading the way by making their facilities more efficient and earning EPA's ENERGY STAR certification."
Since 1999, more than 24,000 commercial buildings and industrial plants have earned the EPA's ENERGY STAR for superior energy performance, with nine Ardagh Group, Glass - North America facilities receiving 22 certifications since 2010.
