Swiss glass packaging company Vetropack has bought Bormioli Rocco’s Trezzano sul Naviglio in Italy.

The Trezzano sul Naviglio glassworks is home to Bormioli Rocco’s food and beverage glass packaging business.

The glassworks produces around 140,000 tonnes of glass packaging every year for the food and beverage industry, most of which is sold on the Italian market. The works employs 260 staff and generated €60 million in revenue in 2014 revenue.

Vetropack said it sold 20% of its exports to customers in Italy in 2014 and said the acquisition will help it gain market share in the country.

Having our own works in a country where we have been a sought-after partner of the food and expansion for decades is an ideal next step in our group’s expansion,” said Vetropack’s Chief Executive Officer, Claude R. Cornaz.

We’re now in a position to develop further in a region that we are extremely familiar with. This will benefit our existing customers as much as those we will be welcoming thanks to our new glassworks in Trezzano sul Naviglio and those we still have to win.”

The two companies did not disclose the purchase price.
