SunGuard® Glass Delivers Abundant Daylight While Managing Solar Heat – When one of the biggest general contractors in the country is working on its own building, the stakes are high, and the materials need to deliver.
SunGuard® SNX 51/23 glass from Guardian Industries Corp. was the best product for the job, a completely retrofitted Atlanta office building that was selected to serve as JE Dunn’s new Southeast headquarters.
Glass Stream, a commercial glazier based in Atlanta, was tasked by JE Dunn to source the exterior glass for the project.
“At Glass Stream, we have the trust of our customers that we will identify the best product at the best price for their projects,” explains Jeff Post, sales manager at Glass Stream. “JE Dunn asked us to locate the best-performing glass we could find, and it was good timing, as SunGuard SNX 51/23 was new to the industry. Everyone was impressed with the performance numbers.”
An important addition to the Guardian SunGuard portfolio of high performance, low-E glass, triple silver SunGuard SNX 51/23 has a visible light transmission of 51 percent and a solar heat gain coefficient of 0.23.
The original building was cut back to the concrete, giving JE Dunn and the building team a clean slate to design a unique entry foyer and a façade that allows abundant natural light to reach the interiors while managing solar heat gain, an important consideration given the hot Georgia summers.
“SunGuard SNX 51/23 glass can help buildings meet the most stringent energy codes in North America without sacrificing appearance,” says Chris Dolan, Director of Marketing, North America, Guardian Industries Corp. “And the product does that with high visible light transmission, low solar heat gain and a reflected blue appearance. It’s a great option for architects and builders.”
Glass Stream installed the glass, which was fabricated by independent Guardian Select® fabricator Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope.
The Guardian SunGuard glass product line for commercial applications offers excellent solar control and a wide variety of colors and performance levels. SunGuard glass products provide innovative, leading solutions for appearance, economics and energy efficiency, and are available through an international network of independent Guardian Select fabricators.
