Indian glass federation meets with Minister of Industry

The Executive Committee of The All India Glass Manufacturers' Federation (AIGMF) met with the Minister of Industry, Mr Gajendra Singh, to debate the use of glass containers as a responsible and safe packaging.

They also discussed the use of glass as an eco-friendly building material for smart cities.

Mr Singh applauded the advanced production techniques used by the industry to manufacture lightweight glass bottles and jars with no loss of quality.

As glass is 100% recyclable, he believed that bottled water should be made available in glass bottles similar to European countries.

Mr. Singh also emphasised the use of more solar and flat glass to build smart cities. He appreciated the industry’s commitment towards Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan (Clean India Campaign) and Smart Cities and offered support to the industry with regard to investments in Rajasthan.

Also at the meeting at the Jaipur Marriot Hotel, Mr C K Somany, Former AIGMF President and Chairman of the Hindustan National Glass and Industries Ltd (HNG group), gifted 500 glass water bottles to the Minister for use in ‘Sachivalaya’.

The bottles were made specifically by the HNG group and carried a logo of Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan that called for responsible and safe packaging.

AIGMF President, Mr Sanjay Ganjoo, stated that there has been a spectacular rise in the use of glass in buildings.

Mr Ganjoo said that the use of glass in buildings will make smart cities look more elegant. He also stated that there is an urgent need for regulations on the use of glass in buildings to ensure more safety in tune with the Smart Cities vision.

Mr. Arun Kumar Dukkipati, Sr. Vice President, AIGMF said that the use of glass bottles emphasises the Clean India Campaign. Waste from other packaging materials are usually dropped in streets by people. But as glass is infinitely recyclable, it means it reaches the junk seller who sells it for recycling.
