Corona Extra recalled because of possibility of glass in bottles

NEW YORK — The possibility of glass particles floating in beer has sparked the recall of Corona Extra sold in the U.S., makers of the brew said.

Pieces of glass were discovered inside Corona bottles sold in 12- and 18-bottle packs. It’s the second time in two years that small shards of glass has been found in Corona bottles.

Constellation Brands Beer Division announced the latest recall Wednesday. Customers can find out if their Corona is involved in the recall by looking at the deposit labels on the neck of the bottle or on the side of the packaging, then comparing them to this list of affected production codes.

The beer production company said less than one-tenth — or about 1 in every 5,000 bottles — of their beer will be affected by the recall, which is being blamed on defective bottles from a third-party glass supplier.

The company said it is recalling the beer out of an abundance of caution. No injuries have been linked to the bottles, the company said.

Anyone with recalled beer is urged not to drink it, but instead to call 866-204-9407 for a refund.
