Peng Shou: Glass Enterprises of China Needs Transformation

The 24th International Congress on Glass was held in Shanghai, China from April 7th to 11th, 2016. There were more than 800 participators coming from 33 countries. The congress covers R＆D, technologies and products in the glass industry.

Peng Shou, chairman of the International Congress on Glass Advisory Committee, achieved lifetime achievement award due to his contributions to Chinese glass industry. Another two prize winners were senior specialists coming from the United States and Japan. It is obvious that China is playing an increasingly important role in the world glass industry.

Peng Shou believed that China has gained strong recognition in the achievements of glass technologies, industrial development and applications. In old days, Chinese glass industry lagged behind others in the glass industry. But nowadays China is one of the leaders, which is really a great progress. All Chinese glass practitioners should work together for staying ahead of the competition.

Peg Shou also held the opinion that nothing could gain enduring popularity without innovations. The International Congress on Glass will absolutely promote the development of Chinese glass technologies. Chinese glass industry needs to develop technology products with independent intellectual property rights so as to become more competitive in the world glass market. He put forward an idea of cross-nation, cross-domain and cross-business cooperation, expecting to accelerate the development of glass industry and consolidate China’s leading status in international markets.

Founded in September 2993, International Commission on Glass has 33 member states.

The commission holds the International Congress on Glass every 3 years. After China jointed in the commission in 1982, China was selected as host country for International Congress on Glass for the second time. The International Congress on Glass is an important platform for the dissemination of glass science and technology information and a great occasion to display the latest progress and achievements made in glass field.

During International Congress on Glass, the presentation of invited lectures not only review major achievements in the traditional fields of glass science and technology, but also in related fields of new application of glass such as optics, photonics, electronics, nanotechnology, coating technology, biotechnology, polymers and composites. In addition, The Technical Committees of International Commission on Glass would organize sessions to review key aspects of their work at the Congress.
