A massive fire earlier this week at the Dusseldorf Exhibition Centre in Germany, the site of glasstec 2016, won’t affect this year’s bi-annual trade show, says an event spokesperson.
According to multiple media reports, an act of arson set the site’s Hall 18 building ablaze. The hall was housing migrant Syrian asylum seekers, and the blaze was reportedly set deliberately by some migrants angry that they didn’t get a wake-up call from guards for the Ramadan holiday.
Anne Meerboth-Maltz of Messe Dusseldorf North America tells USGNN.com™ the incident will not affect any of the organization’s shows since it was not at one of the exhibition halls but instead a storage hall away from the fairgrounds.
A fire department spokesman told the media the 5,000 square foot building was a “total loss.”
The exhibition center is currently holding the Drupa conference. glasstec will be held September 20-23.
