Flat glass prices increased yet again in June, according to the latest Producer Price Index (PPI) released by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Prices rose 0.5 percent for a second straight month, after and increase of 0.6 percent in April. Material prices are up 5.8 percent from June 2015.
According to the Bureau, the PPI program measures the average change over time in the selling prices received by domestic producers for their output. The prices included in the PPI are from the first commercial transaction for many products and some services.
June’s flat glass index represented its fourth month-over-month increase in 2016. The current index sits at 132.2.
Final demand for construction was up 0.1 percent in June and has jumped a full 1 percent over the past three months. Its index is 2 percent higher than a year ago.
Construction materials prices increased 0.2 percent after staying flat the month before. Those prices are up 0.5 percent from June 2015.
Prices for construction machinery and equipment were unchanged, in June but have increased 1.1 percent from a year ago.
In another report, import prices for glass and glassware decreased 0.2 percent and are up 0.2 percent from last year. Export prices in that category saw a 0.2-percent uptick after staying mostly flat the three months prior. They have increased 0.7 percent since June 2015.
Overall, the PPI for final demand in the U.S. rose 0.5 percent in June. Final demand prices rose 0.4 percent in May. On an unadjusted basis, the final demand index increased 0.3 percent for the 12 months ended in June.
The price index for U.S. imports rose 0.2 percent in June after a 1.4-percent spike in May. U.S. export prices increased 0.8 percent in June after a 1.2-percent advance the previous month.
