SCHOTT founds an energy efficiency network

Increasing energy efficiency has been an important issue for the specialty glass company SCHOTT for many years.

The company has had a standardized framework with regular certifications in place ever since all German sites introduced energy management systems based on the international standard ISO 50001 a few years ago. To identify and exploit further efficiency potential, the technology group has now established the energy efficiency network “EffiNet@SCHOTT” at all six of its German sites. This internal company network is one of 500 that are to be established in Germany by 2020 – as a contribution to achieving the climate and energy policy objectives of the Federal Republic of Germany. An agreement between the federal government and the associations and industry organizations provides for this. For this reason, BV Glas, the Federal Association of the German Glass Industry, is also on board as a network supporter of “EffiNet@SCHOTT.” The network is also being accompanied by Energy Consulting GmbH in Kehl, Germany. “We have undertaken great efforts to increase our energy efficiency in the melting of glass quite significantly in recent decades. This is a very important ongoing task for us. As part of our network, we now want to focus on the peripheral processes of glass production even more in order to better exploit potential for efficiency here as well,” said Hermann Ditz, Member of the Board of Management of SCHOTT AG, at the founding meeting of the SCHOTT energy efficiency network.
