How To See Business Obstacles As Stepping Stones Towards Success

Thomas Edison said, "Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work."

Similarly, personal and entrepreneurial development is often missed by people because it is dressed in problems and looks like set backs.

So far in the new year, I experienced what some might consider a major set back. My organization lost an important team member. At first, I felt blind sided and upset. We had just arrived at an important milestone and one of the people whom I depended on to help us arrive to the next one was leaving.

However, after giving the situation some space, and gaining guidance though prayer, meditation, and yoga, I realized that while I was upset, I was making the choice to react negatively, and I didn’t have to move forward in that state.

In fact, I had to do a 180 and move forward as if that person leaving was my own decision. I once heard a psychology hypothesis that states when something unfortunate happens to you, like loosing your job for example, while it might seem like it was an external condition that was subjected upon you- loosing your job was actually your own choice.
