Prime Minster Hubert Ingraham is expected to be in Grand Bahama on February 20 for the official opening of Fenestration and Glass Services, a $20 million glass manufacturing plant.
Announcing this yesterday, Managing Director Philip Popple told The Freeport News that despite some delays which pushed back the opening date from November, the company is now operational.
"We actually started production on January 5 and we´re running two shifts, and by February 16 we´ll be running 24 hours a day," he said, adding that within approximately about 6 months, the company expects to have a full complement of staff, depending on the economic climate.
"That´ll equate to between 130-150 people. At the moment we currently have 30 on staff and each week we´re bringing on two or three more people and they´re going through the training program."
Popple explained that the company is now filling orders that are placed with its 30-man sales force throughout the United States. In addition to producing glass, the company also makes rubber seals used in window construction.
