Post Time:Mar 13,2009Classify:Industry NewsView:379

Taiwan second-tier TFT-LCD panel makers Chunghwa Picture Tubes (CPT) and HannStar Display saw stronger growth in February revenues than first-tier makers on a monthly basis due to rush orders.

CPT and HannStar both had over 30% sequential increase for their LCD business last month, during which AUO had an almost 17% growth and CMO a 18% increase.

CPT has announced that its unaudited consolidated revenues for February totaled NT$3.38 billion (US$98.26 million), with a 29% increase on month, but a 74% decrease on year. Revenues of CPT's TFT business unit for February increased 35% sequentially to NT$2.76 billion, which represents a decrease of 77% on year.

Due to reorganization of its business units, CPT's February shipments of large-size panels for netbooks, notebooks, monitors, and TVs totaled 1.2 million units, up 90.2% sequentially, but down 47% annually. Shipments of small- and medium-size panels increased 46% sequentially to 5.2 million units. CPT last month separated the netbook segment from the small- to medium-size business, and included it in the large-size business.

For the CRT business unit, CPT's February revenues increased 9% sequentially to NT$620 million. CRT shipments for February were 657,000 units, up 8% sequentially.

HannStar saw a 30.6% increase in its February revenues to NT$1.63 billion, which represents a 72.7% decrease on a yearly basis. Accumulated revenues from January to February totaled NT$2.88 billion.

February shipments including large-size monitor panels and HannsG monitors reached 288,000 units, a decrease of 15.7% on a monthly basis. Medium-size panels shipments reached 1.26 million units, an increase of 45.8% sequentially.
