The expansion of the joint venture between San Miguel Corp. and Nihon Yamamura Glass has been approved by the Philippine government.
The Philippine government's industrial promotional arm has approved a USD 7.6 million expansion by the joint venture between conglomerate San Miguel Corp. and Japan's Nihon Yamamura Glass Co. (NYG).
The Board of Investments said it approved the construction of a second glass packaging manufacturing facility by San Miguel Yamamura Packaging Corp. The plant is to be built in Cavite province south of Manila.
"The expansion aims to address the increasing demand for glass packaging products in the country and export markets," the Board of Investments said, adding that 60% of the company's production is sold to local clients in the Philippine beverage industry.
The 32,000-square-meter facility is scheduled to begin operating in March 2019 and employ 138 people, the board said.
The new plant will be able to produce 92,517 metric tons per year of glass packaging, adding to the company's existing production capacity of 145,701 metric tons annually. Both plants will be capable of producing glass sizes ranging from 45ml to 1,250ml.
