Owens Corning, a world leader in building materials and glass fiber reinforcements, today announced its support for T. Boone Pickens' Virtual March on Washington April 1 - 3, an effort to achieve energy efficiency and independence while reducing America's dependence on foreign oil.

Owens Corning, the first official corporate supporter of the Pickens Plan, will encourage its U.S. employees and suppliers to participate in the Virtual March, encouraging them to call, e-mail, fax, and meet with members of Congress about the immediate need for developing a comprehensive U.S. energy plan -- that includes energy efficiency in homes and commercial buildings.

For three days, virtual marchers in Pickens' "New Energy Army" will contact members of Congress with the goal of making more than 1 million impressions to stress the importance of comprehensive national energy reform. By embracing the principles of the Pickens Plan, including energy efficiency in buildings, the United States would dramatically reduce or eliminate our reliance on foreign oil, making our nation safer, cleaner and energy independent.

"T. Boone has sent a rallying cry to America to demand a new energy policy and achieve energy independence -- and we are behind him 100 percent," said Frank O'Brien-Bernini, chief sustainability officer of Owens Corning. "Owens Corning believes that energy efficiency in homes and buildings is critical to the achievement of true energy independence."

Homes and buildings consume more than 40 percent of the nation's energy and more than 70 percent of electricity -- more than industry and more than every car and truck on the road today. With over 80 million U.S. homes under-insulated, there is a great and immediate need to make the nation's buildings more energy efficient.

Pickens' Virtual March on Washington is a demonstration of the collective will of the American people to ensure the country's energy independence and to protect the world's climate and environment. Owens Corning is doing its part by urging the American public to ensure their homes are properly insulated. By improving energy efficiency in our nation's buildings, and switching to alternative fuels as encouraged by the Pickens Plan, the United States will move to cleaner sources of energy, use less of it and completely eliminate the need for foreign oil.
