União Brasileira de Vidros (UBV) was one of the largest producers of patterned glass in Brasil and they have announced on 3.April that the factory is going to close. Sergio Minerbo, President of the company, sadly expressed that the economical conditions and the local market situation made this decision indispensable and therefore, they will not rebuild their furnace for another production cycle. The furnace with a production capacity of 240 tons/day, situated in Cidade Dutra of South of Sao Paulo will therefore be closed that very day.
Currently Brazil counts five flat glass producers: AGC, Cebrace, Guardian and Vivx produce just float glass whereas Saint Gobain Glass is the only one producing also patterned glass.
