On the morning of April 13, a grand launch ceremony for the Chinese mainland's first sixth generation TFT-LCD production line was held in downtown Hefei. Lou Qinjian, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, attended the launch ceremony and delivered a speech.
Since the Central Government laid out stimulus plans to revitalize 10 major industries, construction of the sixth generation TFT-LCD production line is the first project to be implemented as part of the stimulus plan for the electronic and information technology sector.
The project has a planned total investment of 17.5 billion yuan and a designed production capacity of 90K per month. The products will mainly feature TFT-LCD screens for use in television sets and computer monitors smaller than 37 inches. Construction of the project is scheduled to begin in March 2010 and will be put into operation by the end of 2010.
