Şişecam recycles 1 million tons of glass

Şişecam Group recycled 1 million tons of glass waste within the Glass is Glass Again project.

The Turkish group prevented waste equal to 6 billion bottles being thrown away in the past seven years.

Şişecam Group implemented Glass is Glass Again in 2011, a sustainability and social responsibility project, based on the fact that glass is the most sustainable packaging material. 

Within the scope of the project, the group recycled 1 million tons of glass waste since 2011 which prevented 1 million tons of glass, equal to 6 billion pieces of glass bottles, from going to waste in the past seven years.

More than 20,000 glass banks were supplied to municipalities for use.  Awareness training was given to more than 250,000 primary school students.

Use of cullet at the rate of 10% as input in the glass production, provides a 12% reduction in raw materials, 2.5% in energy and 5% in carbon emissions. 

By recycling one glass bottle, it is possible to save electrical energy that can operate a computer for 25 minutes, or a television for 20 minutes. 

The Glass is Glass Again project aims for the transition to a recycling society.
