As part of our wider refurbishment work in the area, we were appointed to replace all the windows on three 20 storey tower blocks for London City Airport. The three buildings comprise 240 flats. With an average of two windows per apartment, that’s nearly 500 brand new windows and we have fitted every single one.
In 2019, we are continuing our work with London City Airport. Refurbishments to a minimum of between 400 and 600 properties has been scheduled, so 2019 looks set to be a busy year here at Newview.
Improving living standards with the best quality products
For the London City Airport tower block installation, it was imperative that we used the best products to reduce exterior noise and boost thermal performance.
Due to the close proximity of the tower block buildings to London City Airport and the noise of the pile driving which is part of the wider regeneration of the area, we chose Optima Windows from Profile 22 fitted with 10.8mm Optiphon glass from Pilkington.
Optima Windows from Profile 22 feature a five chamber sash with six chamber outer frame. This design helps to increase thermal performance while providing excellent structural strength – two essential attributes for a high rise installation.
The Optiphon laminated glass helps to further insulate the building interior from outside noise. Featuring a special PVB interlayer, the Optiphon glass was the perfect choice for a building located in a noisy city environment.
To ensure that the windows functioned at their maximum capacity, an alternative method of ventilation was required. As part of the installation, we fitted Siegenia through-wall ventilation to ensure that the building was well-ventilated and complied with current ventilation regulations.
