Shanghai prohibits the use of single glazing door and window in green buildings

Shanghai Construction and Management Committee (SCMC) has required that single glazing door and window shall be prohibited to use in green buildings in Shanghai.

As per the principle of the Program for Implementing Building Energy Conservation During the 10th Five-year Plan Period and the Notice for Launching Chemical Building Material Technology and Products, SCMC released the second directory of construction materials prohibited or limited in production and use. 7 materials were listed including the single-pane door and window with weak heat preservation and sound insulation. It advocates the promotion and application of hollow glass and Low-E glass door and window in buildings.

It also prohibited the use of plastic door and window in single-cavity structural shape under 50mm in new, rebuilt and extended projects. The plastic door and window is mostly of weak structural performance and short service life. In recently years, 60mm casement windows and 80mm sash windows are mainly adopted in Shanghai buildings.
