The world’s biggest get-together of all protagonists in the glass industry will once again be held in Düsseldorf from 20 to 23 October 2020. At the 26th glasstec – International Trade Fair for Glass Production, Processing and Products – again over 40,000 visitors are expected to come from some 120 countries and in excess of 1,200 exhibitors from over 50 nations. The development of glasstec, the world’s No. 1 trade fair for glass, reflects the positive global trend in the glass sector. The latest figures from the European and the German market serve as an example for the positive development in this industry.
According to preliminary data furnished by the European Glass Alliance, total sales of this industry stood at 13.3 billion EUR in Europe (+3.9 percent against 2017) in 2018. Imports into the European Union reached 6.4 billion EUR (2017: +5.8 percent) and exports totalled 6.9 billion EUR (2017: +2 percent).
The German glass industry also concluded the 2018 financial year with a positive balance over all. According to figures from the Federal Statistical Office and the Federal Association of the Glass Industry (Bundesverband Glasindustrie e.V.), sales totalled 10.1 billion EUR and were up 4.0 percent on the previous year. The headcount in the glass industry rose by 4.7 percent to a total of 56,288 employees. Total glass output rose by 2.4 percent to 7.6 million tons. Sales abroad saw a particularly marked rise increasing by 10.2 percent and a total of 4.5 billion EUR.
Exhibitor Registration Now Open
As of now companies from the areas of mechanical engineering, industry and skilled crafts can register for glasstec 2020 online.
Companies that already participated in 2018 can use already pre-completed and editable forms. The allocation of stand space will start after the registration deadline on 1 December 2019.

2018 saw the special show glass technology live create new
impulses thanks to a university network spanning the four technical
universities in Darmstadt, Delft, Dortmund and Dresden. The special show
demonstrates the industry’s innovative power and will also make
visitors marvel and trigger debate at glasstec 2020.
Think Tank: the glasstec Conference
The special show is complemented by the glasstec conference.
This umbrella brand pools theoretical and practical topics, offering
cross-industry conferences on themes of relevance today and in future.
Every day, visitors to glasstec 2020 can find out about current
developments and trends in the sessions on Glass Production, Processing
Technology and Products. Forming an integral part of this programme of
side events are the technology conference “function meets glass”, the
scientific conference “engineered transparency” and the international

Crafts Center and glasstec challenge
At the Crafts Center, companies present the latest glass
products, tools as well as assembly and lifting aids for the glass
processing skilled crafts assembly. At the “glasstec challenge” young
glaziers from all over Germany will be competing for the second time
now. At the “glass art” exhibition, world-famous artists will be
exhibiting their objects and interpretations with glass.
The START-UP ZONE: the Contact Platform for Young Entrepreneurs
Also enjoying an extremely positive response was the new
START-UP ZONE. 15 young, international enterprises capitalised on the
debut event to make contacts, network and meet decision-makers. This
format is therefore guaranteed to be continued at glasstec 2020.
