Turkey’s Ciner Glass has revealed a plan to build a two furnace glass packaging factory in the UK.
The proposed development will include two furnaces and warehousing facilities at the Rassau Industrial Estate, in Ebbw Vale, Wales.
The group has submitted a scoping report to Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council. A scoping report is normally submitted before a planning application to consider environmental impacts.
It will then submit a planning application before the end of the year.
If planning permission is approved furnace one will launch in 2023, with a second furnace to follow the year after.
It will be the first greenfield container glass site to be built in Europe in 15 years.
Around 600 jobs are expected to be created if the development goes ahead.
Ciner Glass is headquarted in London, UK and is owned by the Turkish industrial organisation the Ciner Group.
The parent company owns the Park Cam glass manufacturing facility in Bilecik, Turkey, which itself was a greenfield construction.
The Ciner Group also owns the Eti Soda and Kazan Soda Electric sites in Turkey, which supply raw materials to the glass industry.
