NorthGlass helps to shape a new landmark in Qatar

Recently, Tianjin NorthGlass has completed the supply of double SGP laminated high performance coated insulating glass for Lusail Towers in Qatar. The skyscraper is located near the Lusail Stadium and was built for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Each of the four skyscrapers has an oval façade, rising with the distortion of the structure, which gives the impression of asymmetric structures. Such rotation starts from the bottom of the building, and in order to match for the structure and ensure its safety, Tianjin NorthGlass developed a new curved tempered forming technology, controlling the arc accuracy deviation within about 1 millimetre, and the edge arc curve within 0.5 millimetre. Through the innovation and optimization of the coating process of precise, flexible interval strip cutting and use of butyl glue in the process of glass research and production, the quality is improved to a new level while ensuring product performance.

Due to the tight construction period and the high processing difficulty, the project put forward very high requirements for the cooperation between the R&D Department, the Engineering Department and the Production Department of NorthGlass.

Tianjin NorthGlass organized a special project team to make the cooperation between the teams more efficient and convenient. The company completed all the glass processing and went to Qatar in just two months. After installation, the combination of 92 pieces of glass became the starting point of the spiral curtain wall system, leading the curtain wall to hover up and go straight to the clouds, which makes the whole building straight and dynamic.

The four skyscrapers in the Lusail Towers are the headquarters of Qatar National Bank, Qatar Central Bank, Qatar Investment Authority and Qatari Diar. The project covers 1.1 million-square-metres and it is located at the end of the tree-lined main road, successfully connecting the newly completed football stadium with the coastal area. The architect fully considered local sunlight and applied ocean-grade aluminium in the design project, outspread outlines that surround the building to block direct sunlight while retaining a good view and ample light.
