GfE: The UK to recognise CE marking until December 2024

The UK government has announced that the UK will continue to recognise the CE marking for a further 2 years. Flat glass makers and transformers will have until 31 December 2024 to prepare for the full implementation of the UKCA marking.

Following Brexit, the UK government announced that construction products such as glazing placed on the market in Great Britain (GB) would require a UK Conformity Assessed (UKCA) mark. After considering the difficulties linked to pandemic, the war in Ukraine and high energy prices, the government agreed to postpone the deadline for the full application of the UKCA mark.

While the extension of the possibility to use either UKCA or CE markings is good news, some questions remain unanswered. In the coming months, it will be key to increase the UK test capability and capacity. Today, several tests for flat glass products can be performed outside the UK territory only. If in 2 years time, the situation remains unchanged, Glass for Europe believes that EU Notified Bodies should be allowed to carry out Type Testing in support of UKCA Marking.
