Prices for Glass Products and Manufacturing Increase in March

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports U.S. Producer Prices (PPI) for glass and glass product manufacturing increased by 0.2% in March, continuing a trend that’s persisted in four of the past five months. Year-over-year, glass and glass product manufacturing prices are up 7.6%. Overall, final demand prices decreased by 0.5% in March following a revised unchanged reading in February.

The report also shows the annual growth rate of producer prices slowed to 2.7% in March from 4.9% in February. The PPI measures the average prices producers receive for domestically produced goods and services.

Glass and Glazing Material Prices

Flat Glass – Flat glass prices dropped by 0.1% in March following a revised 3.4% increase in February. Flat glass prices have declined in three of the past five months. Year-over-year, flat glass prices are up 10.6%.

Flat Glass Manufacturing – Prices for flat glass manufacturing decreased by 0.5% in March. This is the fourth consecutive month that flat glass manufacturing prices have declined. Year-over-year, the segment’s prices are up 11.7%.

Fabricated Structural Metal Products – The segment’s prices increased by 0.8% in March. This follows a 0.2% decrease in February. Year-over-year, fabricated structural metal product prices are up 2.0%.

Ornamental and Architectural Metalwork – For the second straight month, ornamental and architectural metalwork prices have decreased by 0.1%. Year-over-year, the segment’s prices are up 4.4%.

Metal Windows – Metal window prices increased by 0.1% in March. This follows four consecutive months of unchanged prices. The price for metal windows is up 9.1% compared to a year ago.

Metal Doors and Frames – Metal door and frame prices remain unchanged in March. The price for this segment increased by 0.4% in February. Prices for metal doors and frames have not decreased over the past five months. Year-over-year, prices for the segment are up 4.4%.

Builders’ Hardware – Builders’ hardware prices remained unchanged in March. This follows a revised price decline of 2.4% in February. Builders’ hardware prices remain 3.8% higher than a year ago.
